The procedure itself takes 20 to 45 minutes per eye. You will be in the hospital for 2 to 3 hours total including preparation, the procedure, and initial recovery. Most patients are discharged the same day, and vision improvement is often noticeable within 24 to 48 hours.
Candidacy depends on corneal thickness, corneal curvature, refractive stability, and dry-eye status. We never recommend LASIK at the first visit — a full pre-operative workup (topography, pachymetry, Schirmer's test) is done first, and we will tell you clearly if LASIK is not the right option for your eyes. There are good alternatives including PRK, ICL, and lens-based correction.
Bring your current spectacles and any previous prescriptions, eye test reports, scans, or operation notes. If you wear contact lenses, please remove them 3 days before the visit — they alter corneal shape. Bring a family member if possible; drops may dilate your pupils and affect your vision for 4 to 6 hours afterwards.
Yes. Pediatric ophthalmology is one of our core specialties. Children as young as 6 months can be examined reliably for refractive errors, squint, and congenital conditions. Early detection of amblyopia (lazy eye) and squint is critical — the treatment window closes significantly after age 7. We recommend every child have a baseline eye check before starting school.
Cataract surgery is covered by most Indian health insurance plans and Ayushman Bharat. LASIK and cosmetic oculoplasty procedures are generally not covered. We will check your policy with you and provide all documentation needed for cashless claims. Staged payment options are available for procedures not covered by insurance.
Children: before school entry, and every 2 years if no issues are found. Adults under 40 with no symptoms: every 2 years. Adults over 40: every year. Diabetic and hypertensive patients: every year without exception — retinal damage can be well advanced before it affects vision. If you notice any sudden change in vision, floaters, flashes, or pain: same day.
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MBBS + MS/MD Ophthalmology) qualified to diagnose eye disease, prescribe medication, perform surgery, and manage all eye conditions. An optometrist holds a degree in optometry (B.Optom) and is qualified to test vision, prescribe spectacles and contact lenses, and screen for common conditions — but does not perform surgery or manage complex eye disease. Dr. Gudagur is an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon.
